It’s that time again! End of the month and we’re about due for another What I’m Into post! As always, I’m linking up with Leigh Kramer for her “What I’m Into” series, and I’d love to hear about what you’re into and up to in the comments section.
So without further ado, here’s what I’ve been into and up to this month.
Books I’ve Read:
The Mothers by Brit Bennett
Fantastic writing, an un-put-downable plot, and incredibly deep characters made this my favorite book of the month. This is a story about life choices, friendship, betrayal, and the constant wondering what our lives would be like if we’d made different choices. I simply loved this one. Reminded me a little of Before We Visit the Goddess, another favorite read. 5/5 stars
State of Wonder by Ann Patchett
I love Patchett’s writing. I read Bel Canto several years ago and loved it. This novel was packed with potential, but felt like a letdown in the end. Especially the very end, in which two characters I’d rooted for all along end up making stupid choices. 3/5 stars
The Perfect Girl by Gilly MacMillan
This was a quick, intense read that I finished in two days. I love books like this with super short chapters. Somehow when a book’s broken up this way, I find myself reading more because the next chapter is “only two more pages.” This is a fun, fast-paced thriller about a talented girl with a checkered past. 4/5 stars
The Dog Master by W. Bruce Cameron
This is an imagined story of two tribes of ancient people and their connections to a pack of wolves. Eventually, one of the characters — a disabled young man — gains a mother wolf’s trust and is able to begin training her offspring to be the first “dog.” It’s a fascinating story, although the book is a little long and laborious at times. But overall, I enjoyed it. It was different than my usual reading material, so appreciated the fresh topic and the glimpse into a time period not often explored in fiction. 4/5 stars
The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena
This one’s an exciting thriller with a kidnapped baby and lots of characters who don’t end up being who you think they are. Plenty of plot twists, although I have to admit I saw most of them coming from a mile away. Still fun to read though! 4/5 stars
What I Watched:
More of the same TV shows! I’m loving This Is Us, and I’m completely caught up on Jane the Virgin and still enjoying it immensely!
We saw the movie Arrival in the theater earlier in the month and I thought it was fantastic! Really makes you think!
We also watched the documentary 13th on Netflix as well as the Roots miniseries on Hulu and I highly recommend both.
Other Stuff I’m Into
I ended up having surgery on my foot the Friday before Thanksgiving. It was minor surgery, but it left me unable to walk for three days afterward. Amazingly, I’m doing much better now, after a week of lying around!
Just like everybody else, we’ve been busy putting up Christmas decor. I still have a few finishing touches to add, but for the most part we’re done.
I spent Black Friday sitting in my pajamas by the fire and doing some online shopping. Lots of good deals to be had, and you can’t beat shopping from the comfort of home.
And speaking of shopping, I’m in the market for a new sectional sofa. Anybody have one they recommend? We need a big one, and I’d love to hear your suggestions! I’m considering this Alton sectional from Pier 1, but wondering if anyone has experience with Pier 1 sofas? Do they hold up? Are they comfortable?
Aaaaand. . . that’s all she wrote for this month. Wish I had more for you but — just like all of you — I’m officially much too crazy busy in these few weeks before Christmas. The madness has begun!
Maybe you’d like to share what you’re into and up to right now? I’d love to hear from you!
