Well, there are more posts coming, I promise.
Last week was a rough one — for lots of us — and it’s taking some time to process and learn and decide how to move forward.
The good news is that tomorrow is the 15th (the 15th?!?! — already?!?!) so you know what that means! It’s my monthly Quick Lit post where I give you a few short book reviews. As always I’m linking up with Modern Mrs. Darcy.
And this month’s list is short, y’all. I think it’s the time change but I’m struggling to stay awake every time I sit down to read.
Here’s what I’ve managed to finish so far this month:
Pretty Is by Maggie Mitchell
I liked the premise of this novel. This was an audiobook pick for me, about two young women who shared the experience of being kidnapped and kept in a cabin in the woods together when they were twelve. Unfortunately, the novel is predictable while at the same time leaving too many threads hanging. I kept waiting for more. It never happened. 2/5 stars
The Wonder by Emma Donoghue
This is a beautifully written mystery about an English nurse brought to a small Irish village to observe a young girl who seems to be living on faith alone, since she refuses to eat. The writing is tense and driving, and you will find yourself wondering, just as Nurse Lib does, exactly what is going on. Well written and definitely worth a read. 4/5 stars
And here’s what I’m slowly working my way through:
The Dog Master by W. Bruce Cameron
This is good! Review to come once I’ve finished it.
Forty Days to a Closer Walk with God: The Practice of Centering Prayer by J. David Muskens
I’m working through this devotional book during my morning quiet times and enjoying it so far.
What about you? Read any good books lately? I’d love to hear your recommendations!
