You’ll have to forgive me.
I keep dipping down into my personal idea well of writing topics and coming up dry.
In other words, I got nothin’.
It starts to panic me a little, because I’ve never been short on words or stories or — in a pinch — sermons to preach to all the rest of y’all while I stand red-faced on a virtual soapbox.
But three weeks into summer break, and my soul’s doing all it can just to keep on running. As in the overused Texas metaphor about keeping the door closed, dad-gum it, because I can’t afford to air condition the entire neighborhood. I’ve got my own house to cool.
There are changes happening over here, fast and furious, and while my little typing fingers can usually keep up, right now my brain cannot. Not to mention that for the first couple of weeks in June, there was only tragedy and uproar in the headlines. It seemed hypocritical somehow to write about spiritual things when the world was going nuts.
Make no mistake, I am not opinion-less. I have just learned the hard way that it’s sometimes necessary to keep my mouth — and my writing — quiet until I can process my inner thoughts and compulsions.
In the meantime, I’ve been laying low. . . not blogging as much, not interacting on social media. I’m going through a quiet phase.
And while it isn’t the way to grow a blog or get more pageviews, it sure does feel nice. Like lying in a hammock on a summer afternoon reading a big fat book and feeling a gentle breeze blow over you. I’ve forced myself to ease up on the relentless pressure and it’s been a breath of fresh air.
I think summer’s a good time for it. A bit of a sabbath break to just soak in the goodness and learn to exhale.
There’s plenty of reading and sleeping going on over here, and it’s refreshing. But what it means for today?
I got nothin’.
No wisdom or funny stories. No tidbits of helpful information or spiritual revelations. Just me. Bare-souled and sleepy.
But I’m still here.
What to Do When You’re Fresh Out of Ideas
What do you do when your creative juices have stopped flowing and you’re fresh out of ideas?
Well, you grovel a little and then ask for help, even if you’re allergic to it.
So, here’s me groveling and here’s how you can help! What would you like me to write about next? Any suggestions or topics you’d love to see addressed?
Help a sister out, won’t you? Give me some ideas so I can stir up this lazy mind and get the neurons churning again.
What do you want me to write about? What are you interested in reading? What would get you all excited?
I can’t wait to hear. So don’t leave a girl hanging, k?
