Woot, woot! It’s time for the Mother’s Day edition of High Notes! My favorite web links, a recap of last week’s blog posts, and stuff I’m loving right now.
The Song Is Wrong: They Don’t Know Us by Our Love by Michelle DeRusha
“We Christians like to claim “they will know us by our love,” as the song goes, but clearly we are doing a terrible job of living out those lyrics. We need to do better, and we can start by doing more than merely tolerating our neighbors. To tolerate isn’t nearly good enough; to tolerate is to set the bar far too low.”
Slow Down by Kristen Welch
“I used to hate when older moms would pat me on the arm in Walmart while my toddler melted down saying, ‘Savor this time, honey. It will pass quickly.’
I hope, I would reply. Please, let them get out of this phase as soon as possible. But now it has passed and they are too big for my lap and yearning for a taste of freedom and filling this house with so much joy and what I wouldn’t give for one my day of baby breath and chubby thighs.”
“Silence seems to have the opposite effect of the brain to noise. While noise may cause stress and tension silence releases tension in the brain and body.”
Because writing is hard and compilations are fun. . .
Not what I’d planned to write about, but seriously, will some people never learn?!?
In which I challenge you to rethink the very ground you walk upon. . .
1. Days off!
After working multiple piano jobs/gigs nonstop for the past several weeks (weekends included!), I finally had three days off in a row. My house is starting to look like a home again and I managed to get at least some of the laundry out of baskets, folded and put away. This is the busiest music season I’ve ever had, and I’m grateful I can earn money while doing what I love.
Still, though. I was starting to burn out, so a few days off were just what I needed.
It’s like spring is the new Christmas.
At least if you look at how much money I’ve been spending on plants. Arrrgh! I can’t help myself. Nurseries make me absolutely giddy! By the way, I’m working on my little “secret garden” area, and can’t wait to show it to you in a blog post. Coming soon. . .
I’m fashionably late to this party, because we haven’t had cable for years. Now that we have Netflix, we’ve started watching this and it’s so addictive! I’ve always been a big fan of zombie movies, so I’m geeking out over this show!
This Week’s Lyrics for Life:
Ten Thousand Reasons by Matt Redman
These lyrics speak to me about how I’m to use my voice for praise. I get frustrated when my voice doesn’t work the way I want it to, and yet, I will keep on singing. And one day soon, I will sing like never before.
Bless the Lord oh my soul
Oh my soul
Worship His Holy name
Sing like never before
Oh my soul
I’ll worship Your Holy name
You’re rich in love
And You’re slow to anger
Your name is great
And Your heart is kind
For all Your goodness
I will keep on singing
Ten thousand reasons
For my heart to find
Dear readers, may you be surrounded by God’s love this week. I pray you’ll find ten thousand reasons to praise him. And as always,
