It’s time for this week’s High Notes, including some good links, a recap of blog posts, and a list of stuff I’m loving right now!
The Pro-Life Case for Maternity Leave by Courtney Reissig for hermeneutics
“Giving birth to a baby is a beautiful, life-altering thing. Our pro-life ethic should expand beyond the baby in the womb or the scared mom in the crisis pregnancy center. A lack of concern for paid leave has direct implications for our pro-life cause.”
Rice Krispies: My Spiritual Awakening by Sarah Bessey
“We would have missed the truth that God loves the world, that our ordinary every day walking around lives are rich with meaning, that there is value in picking up Rice Krispies and typing in a cubicle from 8-5 and driving a work van and cooking supper and picking kids up from daycare.”
8 Truths Moms with Little Ones Really Need to Hear by Melissa Fenton for Scary Mommy
“Your toddlers may watch TV all day, sometimes. Their faces may be in tablets so you can take a shower, and smartphones may be in their hands so you can make dinner. Let the guilt go. They will not need therapy in 10 years because of it. As a matter of fact, they’ll be able to quickly change your home’s IP address and illegally access Europe’s version of Netflix as teenagers. You know, the whole technology natives thing. It’s awesome.”
Most Emergencies Aren’t by Joshua Fields Millburn at The Minimalists
“We are all fighting our own battles with technological inundation: look up from your device and you’ll see a sea of lonely people lost in the tantalizing glow of their screens, trading intention for impulse.”
I’m super excited to share this one. . . I handpicked these books and blog posts for you to share with people in your life who need to understand autism a little better!
My monthly foray into all the books, TV shows, and other random stuff that’s going on in my life. . . click through and tell me what you’re up to and into these days. . .
In which I remind you (preaching to the choir) to try and see yourself the way God sees you. . .
What I’m Loving This Week:
1. Time Tracking
Okay, I’m not sure if I’m truly loving it.
But I’m doing it anyway, in an attempt to figure out where my time goes and hopefully be more mindful of how I use it. I took the plunge after finishing Laura Vanderkam’s book I Know How She Does It, which is an inspiring read.
I’ve also been using the Toggl app but sometimes I forget to turn it off and it thinks I’m working at my desk for 27 hours straight. Oops.
2. My new Converse
I’ve never owned a pair, but I see them in cute outfits on Pinterest all the time. I had some Nordstrom Notes saved up, so I used them on these Chuck Taylor ‘Shoreline’ sneakers. I got the grey ones. They are super comfy and perfect with jeans.
3. I’ve officially got spring fever!
Yesterday we had perfect weather, so I headed outside to do some yard work. Here’s just a sampling of what’s in bloom in and around my yard. Lovely, aren’t they?!?
This Week’s Lyrics for Life:
In Christ Alone by Keith Getty and Stuart Townend
In Christ alone my hope is found;
He is my light, my strength, my song;
This cornerstone, this solid ground,
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm.
What heights of love, what depths of peace,
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease!
My comforter, my all in all—
Here in the love of Christ I stand.
May you feel the comfort of his presence as you go forth this week.
Blessings and peace,
