Winter is not difficult for us Texas folk. Sure, we have some cold spells, but we are also graced with random 75-degree days even in February. It was close to 80 degrees last week. This morning it was 27. Go figure.
Even still, winter is more dreary than all the other times of the year. The trees are barren and the ground is crackly and brown. It can be a real downer if you let it get to you.
These are the things that are saving my life this winter:
1. Our gas logs.
I love a wood burning fire. The smell, the crackle, the romance of it. But I’m in love with the convenience of a gas log. I can turn that baby on anytime I feel like it, and then turn it off just as easily. Which means I often cozy up on the hearth to do my Bible study, to eat my lunch, or just to read a book. Instant warmth.
2. Lemon and Lime essential oils in my water.
I’ve been doing a Whole30 for most of January. Which means all my favorite Crystal Light drinks and Starbucks lattes have been off limits. In an effort to flavor up my daily water intake, I’ve been adding drops of lemon and lime, and it has saved me! Read more about essential oils here.
I first made this recipe two years ago. And for the first winter ever, my hands and nails didn’t get all dry and flaky. I swear by this stuff!! It’s easy and cheap to make. I make up a big batch every year and keep the extra jars in my fridge until I’m ready to use them. Since it’s made with coconut oil, it will be more of a cream in winter and a lotion in summer.
4. My blardigan
I bought this for my birthday in October on the recommendation of Schaeffer at Pinterest Told Me To. It was expensive. And worth every penny. I think only two or three days have gone by that I haven’t worn this baby. I mostly wear it around the house, even sleep in it, but the beauty of this cardigan is that it can be worn as part of an outfit as well. I wore it on Thanksgiving day with a long denim shirt and black leggings and I was comfy as could be. All. Day. Long. Now THAT’s a lifesaver!
How do I love thee, audiobooks, let me count the ways. I am hooked, I tell you. Hooked. By listening to audiobooks in the car and whenever I am doing menial tasks, I have easily tripled the amount of reading I get done. I use both the Overdrive app (to check out books from my local library) as well as my membership to Audible .
Audiobooks make me a very happy girl!
By the way, if you’ve never tried Audible before, you can get a 30 day free trial, including two free books. You can cancel anytime and there’s really nothing to lose. Click here to try Audible and get your two free audiobooks!
If you’ve been around my blog for very long, you know that my closet also doubles as a prayer room/sanctuary. So I have to keep it neat and tidy. My mom got me some of these hangers a few years ago, but I finally took the plunge and replaced all the hangers in my closet with these jewels. Everything stays on them nicely, and they are very space-efficient. They are saving my closet sanity right this very moment.
So. . . even though the groundhog saw his shadow (doesn’t he always?), I think I just might make it through this winter.
What about you? What is saving your life (or maybe just your sanity) right now?
